Datamonitor Healthcare I&I: Hidradenitis Suppurativa Market Spotlight

January 19, 2024

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa in European regions, is a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin. It primarily affects apocrine gland-rich regions of the body and manifests as painful nodules, sinus tracts, abscesses, and scarring. Axillary and inguinal involvement are more prevalent in females, while buttock and peri-anal localizations are common in males. The onset of HS is generally after puberty, and is most common in individuals during their 30s and may persist into old age. The symptoms of HS range from mild to severe. It causes a mixture of blackheads, red boil-like lumps, scarring, channels, and cysts in the skin that leak pus. HS has a significant impact on the quality of life of patients, deeply affecting work, social, and psychological aspects.
